Salmon latest

Building work still in progess at the Leaping Salmon and it now looks like being end of July, early August, before the pub is fully open. However, the cafe could start up early to mid-July, serving breakfasts, lunches, tea, coffee, etcetera, 8 am to late afternoon.

Runner challenges at Buckland Fair

Tomorrow (Saturday June 9) the road through Buckland Monachorum main village will be shut for the annual fair, setting up from 10.30 and open 1-5. Main event will be the third Buckland Bounder, a six-mile road and country race which already has close to 100 entrants, starting 3 pm. Entry forms at the Drake Inn or online at bmsf.co.uk/

Kids race over 1.5 miles starts at 1.30 pm – entry on the day.

Entry to the adult race costs £10, or £15 on the day, but that includes a free pint and there are some small prizes.

Small cinema news

Buckfastleigh Cinema, one of the small independent cinemas now adding to the options for film fans around Dartmoor, has booked Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri for its next occasional opening – Saturday July 14 from 8.30 pm. Bar opens 7.30. Adult entry £5, under-16s, £2. Support from anywhere welcomed.

Local locations starring in Hollywood

A short horror thriller, set and filmed on Dartmoor, written and produced by an award-winning team, is one of the finalists in a Hollywood indie festival called Dances With Films, running over the next week.
