The new signal mast for mobiles, by the village’s front gate on the A386, will not be improving anybody’s signal for a couple of months yet.
A spokesperson for the company running the mast, on behalf of two big telecoms companies, said today: “Vodafone and Telefonica identified a need in Horrabridge. This is a low-powered base station which will provide better 2G, 3G and 4G coverage to customers of theirs within a half-mile radius. and is expected to start taking traffic by the end of the summer. It is not yet ready.”
Telefonica trades as O2, which serves clients including Giffgaff, Tesco and Sky, and the Vodafone network is used by Talk Mobile and some smaller names. The mast will not serve customers of EE, Three, Asda, BT Mobile, Virgin Mobile and the Co-op, who are apparently satisfied with their networks.
