Some disappointment for local pubs in the 2019 Good Beer Guide, now out.

The Walkhampton Inn and the Leaping Salmon relaunched too late to be included and the London Inn did not get enough recommendations from members of CAMRA – the Campaign for Real Ale – who provide all the information for the guide, starting with a thumbs-up for the beer.

There are no Tavistock pubs in the list and not many round here at all.

The Drake Manor at Buckland, the Old Plough at Bere Ferrers and The Burrator at Dousland get kindly mentions and the Royal Oak at Meavy is listed as the local CAMRA branch’s Country Pub of the Year for 2018. But that is about it.

The South West regional pub of the year, according to the Beer Guide criteria, is The Fleece Inn at Hillesley, Gloucestershire, north of Bristol.

Anyone who wants to have an influence on next year’s guide would need to join CAMRA.

The guide costs £15.99 at https://gbgshop.camra.org.uk/

Or there is an app for mobile devices, various deals, at https://gbgapp.camra.org.uk/
