New film about yachtsman Donald Crowhurst, played by Colin Firth, is at Meavy Hall tonight from 6. The Wharf has the new Freddie Mercury film Bohemian Rhapsody running through to next Friday.
Horrabridge At War exhibition in the parish hall this Saturday and Sunday – see separate story, to follow Friday evening, with pictures. Meanwhile, this seems like a good moment to pass on high praise for Peter Jackson’s new film, They Shall Not Grow Old, currently touring – a chronicle of WW1 built out of miles of documentary footage, edited, enhanced, coloured in and given voices, to startling effect.

The Kit Hillbillies brought a few guests with them from Bere Alston and beyond to join up with 60 or more locals for a rollicking evening of Americana and folk in the Leaping Salmon last Sunday and a rebook is certain. One of the hits of the evening was their localised version of I Been Everywhere Man, which has been adapted ever since it was written by an Aussie, with Aussie place names, in 1959. The Hillbillies’ version is still evolving, but you can catch a recording including Horrabridge and neighbours here
