HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE SHED – AND A TIP OR TWO FOR THE COMING WEEK
The Shed is hq of the Horrabridge Times – back a bit and round the corner from our cover picture, which is reproduced courtesy of local artist Shirley Kirkcaldy, who sells through Wildwood Arts in Chapel Lane.
The Horrabridge Times has had exactly 400 readers over the past week and is averaging at least that, with 300 regulars and up to a thousand extra visitors on good stories. Please use our Postboard for your events – and check for latest updates so far (including Free Bicycle Offer) by clicking here
We love you all and you are therefore excused an end of year round-up. Instead, a few notes on the beginning of the new one …
BIG NIGHTS STILL ON AT SLEEPING SALMON
The Leaping Salmon is mainly closed for a week but will re-open this Friday night, Jan 4, for an unmissable darts derby – Salmon v. London Inn in first match in the local league since Horrabridge became a two-pub village again.
Restaurant will be shut but pub open from 6 pm for drinks and all are welcome.
Same deal on Tuesday, January 8, when the Salmon hosts the Horrabridge Times Chess Club – now a regular date on Tuesdays from about 6.30.
Otherwise, the pub has been closed since New Year’s Day and will not start regular opening and restaurant service again until next Friday – January 11. And the cafe is shut until February.
Manager Fred Andrews said: “We’ve had a great opening run. But we need to take a bit of the quiet season to catch up on some sleep and reflect on what we’ve done since June. It’s been pretty non-stop and it’s hard to adjust when you are in the thick of it. Thanks to all who have supported us so far.”
Meanwhile, the London Inn is having a “January sale”: details below
LEE SPENCER AIMS FOR THIRD TIME LUCKY
Lee Spencer, the one-legged “Rowing Marine” of Horrabridge, is back in Gibraltar for a third try at crossing the Atlantic alone.
Last January, his mother fell ill as he was due to set off and she passed away after he postponed and came home. He was ready for the next weather window, last month, but the winds changed. Now he is waiting and watching for an opportunity in the next week or so.
