The new owner of The Chippie, Kenny Chiu, a Plymouth-trained chef, has introduced himself on Facebook and announced new opening hours from Monday – lunchtimes and evenings every day except Sunday, 12-2 and 4.30-9.
John and Sandra Andrews, moving on after 17 years and many recommendations for good food, have found somewhere to stay while they look for a suitable home to retire to in the village.
They will be working with Kenny this Friday and Saturday, to introduce him to the shop and its customers. And their grand-daughter, Laura, will stay on as an assistant.
Kenny, 42, came to Plymouth from Hong Kong and most of his experience has been in Chinese restaurants and takeaways. He will probably bring in a Chinese menu later. But for the time being, he will concentrate on keeping up the shop’s reputation for fish and chips and other English standards – using the same batter and oil recipes.
More next week.
